Two of RSA’s own underwriters – Amanda Petrov from Personal Lines and Shelley Blagdon from Commercial Lines – have been included in the 2017 Underwriters of the Year list. This list is published annually by the Canadian Broker Network (CBN), Canada’s leading network of independent insurance brokers.
Recipients of this award are recognized for embodying the qualities of a successful underwriter: the ability to write great business that meets clients’ needs, resulting in a win-win proposition for both the broker and insurer.
Petrov is part of RSA’s Private Client team, working with high net worth individuals.
“The landscape for insurance is fast-changing. The biggest challenge for my team is being able to tailor specific products to meet clients’ needs, because the way people spend and invest is changing,” says Petrov. “Growing the business alongside our brokers is the most rewarding part of my job. And of course, learning something new every single day keeps the role exciting and dynamic.”
Blagdon couldn’t agree more.
“No two days are ever identical, and after 30+ years at RSA, I still feel like I am constantly growing as a professional,” she says. “Risks are changing and evolving, especially with the rapid and widespread adoption of new technology and digital communications.”
As an underwriter and technical leader, Blagdon works across all of RSA’s commercial businesses with the exception of the SME sector.
“Troubleshooting broker issues is what keeps my team motivated,” says Blagdon. “I have found that in order to succeed in the role, it is very important to keep the connection with the front line and customer feedback. As a broker-driven business, it is crucial that these insights inform the business we write.”
